Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting Minutes 4/29/08
ZBA Board Meeting

Date:  4/29/08

Meeting opened at: 3:50pm

Members Present:  Cynthia Weber Chair, Fred Chapman, Dean Amidon, Robert Lazzarini, Kathleen Wasiuk, Susan Cooper and Robert Gauthier

Cynthia Weber suggested that the Board raise the application fee from $200.00 to $300.00 for FY09 to cover additional postage costs that are now going to be incurred by the Town/ZBA to notify abutters of a hearing, along with the fees incurred to place the public notices in the paper.

Robert Lazzarini felt that it is a matter of right to citizens of Monterey to be able to appear before the quasi-judicial board at a reasonable cost and was not in agreement to raise the fees.  He felt that the Town should cover some of the costs.  Cynthia felt that when Monterey voted in the bylaws for the Special Permit process that care was taken to provide the privilege of review of each non-conforming property on an individual basis.  The permits resulting are special to each unique instance.  The Town’s taxpayers should not be required to cover these exceptions.

The Board decided to vote at this time to raise the current application fee from $200.00 to $300.00 and voted as follows:

Robert Lazzarini – no
Robert Gauthier – yes
Dean Amidon – no
Susan Cooper – yes
Fred Chapman – yes
Kathleen Wasiuk – yes
Cynthia Weber – yes

The motion passed with a majority “yes” vote and beginning July 1, 2008 the application fee will be raised to $300.00.

The hearing concluded at 4:00pm
